Egipto .- Al menos 20 personas murieron y otras 40 resultaron heridas este miércoles en un accidente de tren en la estación central de El Cairo, informaron fuentes de seguridad y médicas.
Según estas fuentes, el accidente provocó un incendio en el interior de la estación de Ramsés, la principal de la capital egipcia. La televisión pública confirmó el balance del accidente.
Una decena de ambulancias y otros tantos vehículos de bomberos se hallan frente a la estación, según un periodista de la AFP. En su interior, varios policías y bomberos inspeccionan un tren calcinado.
El primer ministro egipcio Mostafa Madbuly acudió al lugar del siniestro. “Todo aquel responsable de negligencia deberá responder de ello” y asumir las “graves” consecuencias, afirmó.
En fotografías y videos compartidos en las redes sociales se ve una humareda negra elevarse sobre la estación. Otras imágenes del interior muestran un andén en llamas y a gente corriendo para socorrer a las víctimas.
Según algunos medios de comunicación locales, un tren chocó con un bloque metálico y según otros, con el andén.
En Egipto abundan los accidentes, tanto de carretera como ferroviarios debido a una circulación anárquica, a la vetustez de los vehículos y al mantenimiento deficiente y la poca vigilancia de las vías.
