Agencias .- Los Patriots de Nueva Inglaterra se proclamaron campeones de la 53 edición del Super Bowl al vencer por 3-13 a los Rams de Los Angeles en el partido que se disputó esta noche en el estadio Mercedes-Benz de Atlanta con una asistencia de 77.000 espectadores.
El corredor novato Sony Michel hizo el único “touchdown” del partido cuando faltaban 7:00 minutos para el final del tiempo reglamentario con un avance de dos yardas y el pateador Stephen Gostkowski, que ya había anotado el primer gol de campo de los Patriots, hizo bueno el punto extra.
Gostkowski también hizo el gol de campo de 41 yardas que sentenció el partido cuando faltaban 1:16 minuto para el final.
El título fue el sexto que consiguen los Patriots en los 11 Super Bowls que han disputado, incluidos nueve en los últimos 17 años, todos bajo la dirección del entrenador en jefe Bill Belichick y el mariscal de campo Tom Brady, que les permite empatar con los Steelers de Pittsburgh como los mejores en la historia de la NFL.
El primer título de Super Bowl que consiguieron los Patriots fue en el 2002 y lo lograron tras vencer por 20-17 a los Rams, que entonces tenían su sede en San Luis.
